@shapshak - the reason why I am cancelling my SA @stuffmagazine subscription
Hi Stuff Team
I am curious how you still charge your existing subscribers more for a renewal than you charge new subscribers for a subscription (as per your ad in the latest issue). I had this issue with you last year at renewal time.
I wish to cancel my subscription and I think it is only fair to give you honest feedback:
· Your inconsistent pricing for loyal subscribers
o It’s cheaper to buy it on www.MySubs.co.za where I assume you would need to pay a commission
o Your ‘subscribe now’ offer in your magazine is cheaper than my renewal
· Articles are poorly translated from a UK audience to a local South African one (if at all).
o E.g. your latest edition says that new iPad’s 4G LTE is not supported in the UK…. I would rather be told that MTN & other providers are testing their LTE and plan to release around xxxxx……
o There are a number of locale references to the UK
· I would love to see what is happening with local ‘Stuff’ – there are so many designers, engineers, artists, gadgetiers, inventors etc. that need to be discovered.
· Your stuff.co.za website doesn’t exist and the only info on Avusa’s site is dated from 2009. A website and newsletters are great ways to engage your subscriber base with additional info whilst the next editions are being prepared – especially in your fast moving tech world.
o http://www.avusa.co.za/businesses/media/magazines/stuff - dated
o http://www.stuff.tv - UK site
o My popular mechanics (www.popularmechanics.co.za), Tech Smart (free www.techsmart.co.za) and Wired magazine (www.wired.com) subscriptions all manage to send out monthly mailers and run websites.
· I intent to take up a digital subscription to the foreign editions instead
o I’m glad to see you have a digital version on Zineo too (I don’t recall seeing an advert in your latest edition but I may have overlooked it) but I will prefer the foreign content at present.
o Remember that awesome TV show in the 90’s called “Beyond 2000” that lived until 1999? At least you have taken the next step!
I trust you can take my comments as constructive and re-consider your product and offering to your subscribers. I can’t be the only one out there who feels like this!
You have my details if you wish to try convince me otherwise!
Regards,
Alon Berman
